On November 22, 2016 Aleksandr Pavlovich Gorbunov, PSU Rector, Chairman of the Council of North Caucasus Federal District Institutions Rectors, vice-president of the Russian Rectors Council took part in a meeting of the Council of Russian Rectors Union, headed by the MSU Recotor Victor Antonovich Sadovnichiy. Andrey Aleksandrovich Fursenko, Assistant of the President of the Russian Federation, and Olga Yurievna Vasilyeva, Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation took part in the event as well.
The meeting took place in Moscow, in Intellectual Center of Fundamental Library of MSU.
The agenda included issues about Strategy of scientific and technological development of the Russian Federation, and Principal areas of the Russian Federation education development, etc.
On the meeting, Minister of Education and Science of the Russian Federation appealed for all the rectors to pay attention on a humanitarian education, and rectors of technological institutions no to exclude humanitarian subjects from programs: “We really have problems, big problems. It concerns not only education but also humanitarian experts training, and humanitarian fields in technological institutions.” As she said, many technological institutions aim to replace humanitarian subjects with other fields. “Graduates should be wide spectrum experts,” – she said.
Big attention was paid to the qualitative pedagogic education development and Russian language promotion in Russia, as well as abroad.
Olga Vasilyeva also said that the Ministry of Education and Science of the Russian Federation will continue the formation of base universities but will stop requiring their obligatory reorganization or merging with others. Minister also informed about the project of formation of 100 universities as the centers of innovations in Russia by 2025.
The meeting finished late evening after fruitful discussion of the issues mentioned above, and other problems connected with the development and support of the higher education of the country.
